The new Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) Liquor Distribution Centre will be the primary facility in AGLC’s warehouse network, handling all fast moving product and serving as the central hub for order assembly and shipment. The warehouse, located in St. Albert, is 543,000 square feet, with 470,000 square feet dedicated solely to warehouse space. The warehouse is roughly the size of eight football fields and has the storage capacity of over 70,000 pallets of product.
The structural challenges of the project involved unfavorable geotechnical conditions, necessitating a structural slab supporting 40 foot high, reconfigurable racking that still had to meet a “very flat” floor specification. Over 2800 continuous flight auger piles and 7,000,000 pounds of structural steel were required to meet the demands of this $142 million facility.
